  19. When you run the Windows NT Command Prompt and try to change the
  20. current directory (using the CD command) to a nonexistent directory
  21. using a long directory name (longer than eight characters, not
  22. including an extension) on a file allocation table (FAT) file system,
  23. you will receive the following incorrect error message:

  25.    Access is Denied.
  26.  
  27. If you are on a drive that uses the Windows NT file system (NTFS), the
  28. CD command will return the correct error message, which is:
  29.  
  30.    The system cannot find the path specified.
  31.

  35. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with Windows NT version
  36. 3.1 and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching
  37. this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft
  38. Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

  43. Steps to Reproduce Problem
  44. --------------------------

  46. 1. From the Main group, start the Command Prompt and change to
  47.    a drive that uses the FAT file system.
  48.  
  49. 2. Type "cd <long_filename>" (without the quotation marks) where
  50.    <long-filename> is a nonexistent name with more than eight
  51.    characters (not including the extension, if any). For example, 
  52.    "cd newutilities".
  53.  
  54.    At this point, the above error message will appear.
